      An Italian immigrant, Joe Gardin had success with his Mobile Industries, which made pallet trucks. He was a cycling enthusiast and established another company set up the company with the Canadian distribution of Cambio Rino derailleurs. Frame builders from Italy were used to make bikes. He initially sold bikes under the Cambio Rino name in the early 80's, then moved on to sell the Gardin brand bikes. He also opened Veneto Cycle, a retail outlet Gardin was also a supporter of Canadian racers, most notably his bikes for the celebrated  sprinter Curt Harnett.  The Gardin company went out of business in the 1990s.
