    "James commenced frame building in 1938 from premises in Smithdown Place in Liverpool.  Throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's James Fothergill was considered amongst the Liverpool 'artisan' builders amongst the likes of Harry Quinn, the Soens Brothers etc.  Stan Brittain, amongst other achievements,  rode a Forthergill into the medals in the 1956 Olympics.
   An exceptional frame maker, James Fothergill frames remain highly sought after.
